About Brian Ursu
I am a post career guy beginning the third act of life with more questions than answers. That being said, at this stage of my life, I have way more answers than I did three decades ago, but the questions accumulate at a more rapid pace. The more I know, the more I realize I still have questions about, and need to learn. If you choose to read my blogs, you will have the benefit of learning right along with me. During Act 2 my learning was more oriented towards finance, economics, politics, the nature of markets, human behavior and investing. These subjects were multi-faceted and interesting but the learning felt, somehow, functional or practical. I needed to understand to better serve my clients. Now that I am “post-career” the joy of my learning will be an exploration of things which I find interesting. If you do too, awesome, welcome.
During Act 2, I spent 37 years as a Certified Financial Planner and Wealth Manager, of those, the last 17 years as founder and principal of my own firm. It’s interesting how much we relate who we are by what we do. This bio would have been a cinch five years ago. Now, it’s a little… nuanced.
The practical stuff, and details which would likely be included in an obituary. Back in the late eighties, I married my best friend and together we have been blessed with four amazing biological kids. Along the way we picked up another one who is every bit amazing, she was just born to a different family on a different continent. She is our “exchange daughter” and she has been a part of our family for a dozen years. We also have a grandson who has captured our hearts in new ways and calls me “Papa.” Of all the titles I have held in my many trips around the sun, this moniker is by far my favorite.
Here’s a fun fact: due to the spacing of the arrival of our children, we will have had teenagers under our roof for a total 23 years. That’s a lot of years. It’s also a lot of athletic practices, games, report cards, performances, recitals and every other thing you can imagine.
The curtain is just rising on Act 3. It promises to be full of more adventures, exciting discoveries, hopefully not a lot of drama, and a lot of fun. To the extent that you are interested in this journey, I would encourage you to sign up to receive regular updates. I promise be as open and honest as possible as I continue to learn and get more questions answered. If at any point, it turns out that our interests are too divergent, simply opt out, no hard feelings. I will have enjoyed having you along for the short time that I did.
